AET standards and quality framework

Understand the role of application-specific AET standards, written procedures, personnel, system checks and reporting.

Select the document for the asset and decision

There is no universal AET procedure for every material, loading condition and acceptance decision. The contract, asset code, jurisdiction and current document editions determine what is applicable. A published standard describes a method; it is not evidence that IAIS holds a particular approval or that an asset satisfies its criteria.

Metallic pressure equipment

ISO 24367 and applicable ASTM practices address monitored active sources and pressure-boundary applications.

Liquid-filled metallic tanks

ASTM E1930/E1930M covers examinations of atmospheric and low-pressure tanks within its stated scope.

Leak detection

ISO 18081 addresses acoustic emission leak detection driven by pressure difference.

FRP equipment

ISO 18249 and ASTM E1067/E1067M provide material-specific guidance for relevant composite applications.

Concrete structures

ASTM E3100 addresses AE examination of concrete structures.

Monitoring

ASTM E1139/E1139M covers continuous monitoring of metal pressure boundaries; ASTM E2983 guides structural health monitoring.

What a defensible deliverable should contain

  • Identification of the asset, monitored boundaries, applied procedure and personnel responsibilities.
  • Sensor layout, coupling, coverage, system checks and limitations of source location.
  • Load, pressure, temperature or process sequence and synchronized data.
  • Noise assessment, retained data, evaluated activity and criteria used.
  • Clearly separated observations, interpretations, follow-up recommendations and acceptance decisions.

Project-specific qualifications, equipment and certificates can be supplied with a formal offer when confirmed; this public page does not assert unverified AET credentials.

In the field

Acoustic emission testing in industrial environments

Sensor placement, test conditions and data acquisition are planned around the specific asset and inspection objective.

Discuss your inspection objective

Send the asset type, location, operating conditions and proposed loading or test window. We can review the information before defining a project-specific scope.
